The growing concerns over C02 emissions and the
green house effect have motivated the development of
zero-emission battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs) which
are expected to play a major role in making the road transport
system, which currently accounts for about 25% of the total
C02 emission in the U.K., greener. The number and variety
of EV s batteries connecting to electrical distribution systems
is expected to grow rapidly, presenting a potential burden on
local power companies. In order to adequately prepare for the
increase in load demand and provide support through technical
standaros and trade regulations, utilities and government organizations
must be able to predict the EV s battery charging loads
under various scenarios and evaluate the ability of existing
power systems to accommodate them.
