\x05During the bidding period, the contractor uses all the documents to put together the pricing for the project. If standard formats are used, the contractor is able to focus the most attention on those things that are different from the norm. The designer should make every effort to organize the information so that the unique aspects of the job are easily recognizable.
Otherwise, the contractor may miss important details that would change the pricing structure that he or she sets up for the project.Omissions or misunderstandings only do a disservice to the project. The assertion that the contractor should have picked up a detail rings hollow if the information about it is buried in the documents.Legally, the contractor is bound to provide the scope as expressed in the documents. The owner and the designer should make every effort to ensure that the contractor has covered all the peculiarities of the project. An unhappy contractor is not going to make a good team player.
