这首歌最早的书面记载是1744年,在一本名为Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book 的书出现.
1823年The Gentlemen's Magazine 的一名男性读者的回信也提到孩提时曾经听过一名妇女唱到：
London Bridge is broken down(注意：歌词有变,后来的版本是“falling down”,也就是“正在倒下来”,在这里是“已经倒踏”,有趣的是：后世的版本反而是“正在倒下来”.）
