Mom always helped me get ready for my school dances when I was a teen.She’d polish my shoes ,iron my shirt ,pick out the right tie to go with my blue blazer (夹克)and make sure my hair didn’t stick up,even after I’d smoothed it with Vitalis(一种发乳).
I’d squirm(扭捏),but secretly I felt as if I had won a million dollars .We’d climb into our Buick and she’d drive me to dance.“Be nice and have fun ,” was her parting advice .
Two hours later she’d pick me up.My heart would be beating fast from my slow dance with a cute girl in the eighth grade .“Did you have a good time and dance with all the pretty girls ” Mom would ask.
I shrugged like any teenager would .“ Guess so.”
Many years has passed since then ,and I got married to an even cuter girl .We have two teenagers ,and many times I’ve dropped them off for a school dance (they roll their eyes at my last -minute advice ).Mom is in an assisted –living home now because of Alzheimer’s (老年性痴呆).I’ m grateful for the good care the staff at Sunrise (养护中心的名字)gives her,but I’ve often prayed for something special I could do for her there.
The chance came not long ago when Sunrise announced they were having a semi-formal dance for the patients.I put on my tuxedo(燕尾服),smoothed my hair with a lot less Vitalis and appeared at her door.I swear that she took out a comb and worked on my hair.On the dance floor I was able to thank her for making me look my best at all those school dances.
“Guess who’s dancing with the prettiest girl?” I said.
She looked around the room.“Who?” she asked.
“Me!” I said.
She gave me a smile and a hug .My mother can still make me feel as if I had won a million dollars.

我小时候,要到学校参加舞会,妈妈总是会为我做好一切准备.她会帮我擦皮鞋,熨衬衫,帮我挑选可以搭配我兰色夹克的领带,还要确保我的头发在用了发乳后绝对不会再翘起来.

很多年后我和一个最可爱的女孩结婚了.我们有了2个孩子,我很多次送他们去学校跳舞（他们总会再我最后一次的嘱咐时翻着白眼）.妈妈因为老年痴呆症,现在住在一个养护中心.我很感谢日升养护中心员工给予妈妈细心的照料,但我也总会希望能为她做一些特别的事.
不久后,日升养护中心宣布要为病患们搞一个稍显正式的舞会.于是,我穿上了燕尾服,用发乳梳理整齐了我的头发,然后站在了妈妈的门前.我发誓她又拿出了梳子,再一次帮我整理了一下头发.在舞池里,我感谢他为我小时候参加舞会并成为最幽雅的舞者而做的一切.
我对她说：“猜猜看,谁和最漂亮的女孩跳舞了?”
她环顾四周,问道“是谁?”
我回答她：“我!”
她微笑着拥抱我,现在我妈妈依然会让我的感觉就象赢取了百万美圆一样好.
