This summer vacation is almost over.I am now working as a volunteer in the expo service station for 14 days and every day for 5 hours.I am quite proud of myself of being an expo volunteer,because I have tried very hard in order to be a member of the volunteer team.I am very lucky that I get the chance to do something for the society and those people who need help.
On the first day,I made friends with other volunteers.The boy who worked with me is also a student in Nanyang Model High School,though he has already graduated this summer.The girl I met there is studying in university and she speaks very good English.We were told to focusing on smile,politeness,attitude and also gesture and body language on the first few days.We did struggle through the extreme hot weather as well we were so nervous that our clothes would get wet with sweat in only a few minutes.The following days were all about getting used to the surroundings and finding out not only expo information but also we have to be up-to-date,because we are in the era of information overload,our world is changing faster than we are thinking of .Our leader told us to “spread our wings” yesterday.It means that today is the last day for her to teach us the daily affairs,the team spirit,and how to be professional expo volunteers.We have learned a lot from her in the past few days.She has worked there for over 70 days and she is really an expert in every field ,as she is able to provide the visitors all the information they need ,even more she doesn’t feel tired during the hot days.I wonder,how long does it take for me to be so professional and energetic like her.
Shanghai is developing in a staggering rate,the pace of life is getting much faster,and the proliferation of English made communications easier.We can see two or more foreigners passing by every five minutes from our working place.I personally take part in English translation and giving information and suggestions to foreign travelers.Though it is not a hard job,I did face some obstacles.Once I met a lady from Italy,she couldn’t speak English very well,so that I got trouble in showing her the way.Still after a lot of discussion and communication,I took her to her destination.On the way we chatted with both English and body language.I found out that she is an architect in Rome,and now she is working in the Italy Pavilion.She gave a map of the architectures in Rome as a gift for me.Finally I sent her back to her hotel and I gave her my phone number as if she needs help in the future.
