Do we really need English so much,even more important than Chinese?
Talking to a Univ student,what he said shocked me.Using their first two years passing the so-called Band 4,with a final mark of 80 or even higher,most of them are still unable to use English fluently in meaningful / effective communication in English.A bit gloomy,but it is a fact.
Yet these same kids almost don't have any lessons in Chinese.What happened?Before the early 20th century,education means to learn all the traditional works,and to be able to use the national language Chinese as expertly as possible.But if you look around today,many of the univ students can't really write in Chinese.Their reading is so limited that they themselves can't write a proper letter.Believe it or not,Chinese students' vocabulary is becoming less,I mean their Chinese vocabulary.
Who decides English is more important than Chinese for these poor Chinese students?How many of these young people will be using English on a daily basis?And how many of these young guys are going to live abroad?
Somebody needs to say NO to this terrible trend.But yet who?

Why we say Chinese is important than English? I think that's obviously. First, China has 1.3 billion people, if you can speak Chinese, you can communicate with one fifth people in the world. Second, China has 5000 years' history, If you can speak Chinese, you will easier understand the Chinese culture and easier feel the civilization in the long 5000 years. What's more, China is the country which is develop fastest in the world, and China is becoming more and more important.
So, in my opinion, I think Chinese is more important than English now.
