When I looked back at my life, there were so many thing I could have done differently, and so many things I did not even have a choice to decide on. I couldn't choose the family I was born; I couldn't choose to grow up in a place where trains crashed and poisonous food killed children. But if at one point of my life I am given a chance to change one small thing, in this case, to go to a foreign country, I would make the destination the United States of America.
News agencies spread rumors about this country every second. They said America manipulated the global market; they said that American people suffered much more compared to us; they said it would be the worst decision ever to head there. But I know, or even they know that there is something they cannot lie about. That thing has name; it is called freedom.
In America, If I am still high school student, I will have to get up 6.30 in the morning to wait for the school bus. That sounds pretty bad, right? But if unfortunately some accident happens, the school bus and the students in it will be the last that get injured.
If I am a college student, I will have too much freedom in deciding my schedule or major that I cannot even make a decision very fast. No Marx theories or PE lessons.
If I have started working, the health insurance will be provided, and every time I work overnight, the salary is paid twice high.
I am sure I will still meet dreadful things even there, but there still stays a difference. The bottom line of being a human being is settled higher there. If injustice occurs, I do not need to kneel down to beg an officer; if unfairness outrages people, they can go on the streets and fight for what they want. It is not guaranteed that everyone will have the result they ask for, but they are guaranteed with a choice to try.
There is no difference between people from countryside or big cities; there is no difference between your father as a farmer and mine as a civil servant. There is no difference between the air we breathe in; it is fresh and free.
Now let's go back to the beginning. Why? That is a wrong question. The right one is, why not?
