My feeling of The Spring Festival
I like Spring Festival. When Spring Festival is coming,my heart always gets to rejoice more and more.Occasionally I would be a little sentimental.
When I was a girl,I lived in the rural-urban fringe zone in Wuhan. The people lived there kept traditional habits of Chinese peasants.
My father was a worker, but his thought was like a typical peasant.Though my family was not well-off,when Midwinter came,he must buy much meat and fish to preserve.
One or two weeks later,he took out the meat and fish and hung them in the sun.His memory was not good, but he never forgot to hang out and take back those meat and fish every day. When he was doing this,he was smiling, feeling satisfied.
On Spring Festival,he did many delicious dishes, asking his and my mother’s sisters and brothers to come to eat.In those special days,he never scolded us,even though we made big mistakes. He just forbad us speaking the word “death”,such as “I’m laughing to death” was forbidden. If we were not careful to speak it,he would be unhappy and stared at us angrily.

Spring Festival
I like Spring Festival. When Spring Festival is coming, my heart always gets to rejoice more and more. Occasionally I would be a little sentimental.
When I was a girl, I lived in the rural-urban fringe zone in Wuhan. The people lived there kept traditional habits of Chinese peasants. My father was a worker, but his thought was like a typical peasant. Though my family was not well-off, when Midwinter came, he must buy much meat and fish to preserve. One or two weeks later, he took out the meat and fish and hung them in the sun. His memory was not good, but he never forgot to hang out and take back those meat and fish every day. When he was doing this, he was smiling, feeling satisfied. On Spring Festival, he did many delicious dishes, asking his and my mother’s sisters and brothers to come to eat. In those special days, he never scolded us, even though we made big mistakes. He just forbad us speaking the word “death”, such as “I’m laughing to death” was forbidden. If we were not careful to speak it, he would be unhappy and stared at us angrily.
During I had postgraduate study in Shanghai, I went back Wuhan twice every year. At that time, my father was work-off and the income of my parents was very limited, but they always prepared much food to welcome my returning. When I took my boyfriend home the first time in the Spring Festival of 2001, my parents were very happy, because I was very old as a girl and they had been worrying my marriage very much. Before I returned home, I wrote a letter to my sister. I said on it that the boy was not handsome and I was afraid that mum and dad would not like him. But since we entered home, my parents couldn’t help laughing, especially my father. Every morning, they prepared a big bowl of noodle with many ingredients in it for us. Until today do my husband laugh at me that my family used so big bowl that his family has never used. There were only two rooms in my home, so my father, my boyfriend and my sister’s boyfriend lived in one room, and my mother, my sister and I lived in the other room. In the evening, my parents and their two future sons-in-law played Majiang, my sister and I were looking beside. I always couldn’t stand late, so I went to bed which was just beside the Majiang-table and fell asleep fast. Sometimes I was woken up by my sister’s voice, “Jiefu wins again. Jiefu wins again.” I opened my eyes and looked at them, my boyfriend laughed a lot, and my parents laughed even big more. The Spring Festival of that year is the only reunion of my family. How happy of that year! In 2002, I was pregnant and my mother came to Shanghai to look after me. At that year my father spent Spring Festival with my sister at Wuhan home. In 2003 my son was too little and we didn’t come back Wuhan. On June 30, 2003, my father who loved life so much passed away. From then on, it has been impossible for six people of the whole family spend Spring Festival together any more. It was from then on have I known what the meaning of death is. My dear father loved to preserve meat and fish and hang out them in the sun, but he could never do it again. He had hoped to play Majiang with his son-in-law, but he just enjoyed once in his life. He loved his grandson very much but he never heard his grandson calling him “Yeye.”
Since my father passed away, my mother lived with us and my sister came to Shanghai with her husband. So there is no much meaning to go back to Wuhan. When Spring Festival is coming, I envy those people who take his(her) small family to go to reunion with his(her) big family. They may have grate difficulty to buy tickets and they lose time to have rest, but how happy they are! When they enter home, they can see the happiest smile on their parents’ faces.
I love Spring Festival. I love the warm atmosphere in the family.
