第二个,修饰的是The radio and the book ,因为后边用的是are；第二问还是一样,n the shelf修饰的是flower and cup,要不然就是带着半句废话的话,人类的思维不是这样的.
第三句话一看就是中国英语,老外这么说话会被人问：你为什么放弃治疗?but是连词,其他不是.
第四个问题感觉应该是singles吧?单身的.总之看不到整句话不迷噶比什么意思.
第五问：on their own ground修饰the project .

2 我认为两个句子中的修饰语修饰的是两个，而不只是后面临近的一个。因为the 是表示特指某个物体，既然用了the说明物体不只有一个，所以需要特指方位来区分所属。
3 not only ..but also 是不仅。而且。。的意思。也算是一个固定用法了，至于你的句中主语不一致我觉得有问题
