a great way to start an essay is with an anecdote,which means that you are talking about a personal story in your own life,and after the reader reads your introduction which is basically a short story on your life,you jump into the topic.here's the thing though,the introduction MUST have something to do with the topic that is given,so,for instance,lets say that you had to write about the 'technology dependence' example you gave.start your essay giving examples on how technology has taken over your life,for instance,cell phones with text messaging,computers with the internet -- youtube,myspace,etc...after you give examples from your own life,use your own lifes example as a representation of the world as a whole.give many arguments by starting each new paragraph with a different argument.3 arguments is average.then end your essay with a conclusion,which is pretty much a summary of your essay.
