My first day as a sophomore was kind of scary. That morning it was pretty hard to wake up since I haven't woken up that early in a while. I wasn't used to the high school environment. Although there are some obvious similarities between junior high and high school, the two are very different in regards to academics, sports, and activities.
The first difference between Jr. high and high school is the academics. Jr. high and high school classes are very different but in both of them you learn. While in Jr. high if you don't do your homework, you have to stay one hour extra after school. In my school this was called seventh hour. In high school it is up to you if you want to do your homework. If you don't do your homework in high school, you don't have to stay after school or anything like that. Also, in Jr. high you are limited to the variety of classes you can take. For example in Jr. high they don't look at your future just the classes you need. While in high school you can take up to a bigger variety of classes. Also there is a much bigger difference in the rules. Furthermore in Jr. high you have to have your I.D. on the whole school day it is not like that in high school. If you don't do this, you have to stay on one hour extra after school. Also in Jr. high you can't have with you your cell phone at all or they will take it away. In high school you can use it before or after class.
While in Jr. high you cant chew gum either. If you get caught with gum you have to stay after school and pick up trash off the floor. While in high school you can chew gum all you want. These are the differences with academics in jr. high and high school. A second difference between Jr. high and high school is the sports. In Jr. high and high school there is a big difference in sports. While in Jr. high there is not a lot of people trying out for a sport. There is not a lot of people trying out because it is a much smaller campus. While in high school it is much harder to make a sport. Its harder because the students are much more talented than they were. Additionally in Jr. high you only have one team for each sport. While in high school you have two. The two are junior varsity (JV) or varsity. Also there is a big difference in the school spirit. In Jr. high student rarely wear there school colors on game day. In high school it is different. You see people all dress and blue and even have there skin painted. Furthermore in Jr. high the cheerleaders aren't that talented. In high school you see the cheerleaders doing back flips and are more spirited. These are the differences with sports between Jr. high and high school.
The final difference between Jr. high and high school is the activities. In both jr. high and high school you have clubs but they are way different. In Jr. high there is not a lot of clubs you can choose from. While in high school there is plenty more. In high school you can even make up a club if you don't like the clubs to choose from. In Jr. high we dint get to do that. In Jr. high you only got to meet during school. You didn't go to any fun trips with them. In high school you get to go to fun places. For example the German club gets to go to Germany. Also in jr. high you don't get a lot of people in the club and you don't do a lot of fun times during school. In high school there is much more people and you get to do things during school. Another difference is that the dances are also way different. In Jr. high there mostly pretty plain. While in high school there more decorated in more colorful. Also in Jr. high you don't get a lot of people in the dances. In high school you can’t even find a way to get in.
These are the differences between activities in Jr. high and high school. As you can see these are my differences between academics, sports, and activities. It was hard for me to wake up that first day of school. I recommend that like some new students you too get a mentor to help you out during your first couple of weeks at high school.
