If an earthquake hits, the first priority is to secure an exit - open the door. If by any chance the doorframe twists, you could end up trapped behind a closed door. Next, take cover - under a desk or table is best, or other heavy furniture, but failing that look for a place that is up by a supporting pillar or wall, and well clear of any sources of falling glass or debris (high shelves, light fittings, windows, etc.) Stay there until the all-clear is given.
