This iis a most popular topic among all the people on the earth :"whether there are no any competitors to English?" Many disagreed but more agreed.The people who disagreed with the idea thinks Chinese can be a rival to English.They hold the idea as China's economic and political power are increasing rapidly this days,more and more foreigners begin to know the importance of communication with China; and as Chinese comprise about sixth of the whole porpulation,it is also a big advantage.But,in my opinion,Chinese can not be a rival to English.
First of all,English is easier to learn than Chinese,we know many people around the world who can speak English well but hardly know any foreigner who can speak chinese.Chinese characters are so difficult,so meaningfull to understand,even for ourselves.On the contrary,
English characters are simple and easy to write and easy to pronouce.
At the same time,English is learned as a second language in many countries.Even in our own country,children are told by their parents at their early ages the importance of English.And if you want to enter the first grade universities in China,no matter what you chose to learn-art or science,you are expected to have a high text score in English too.But as far as I know there is no university abroad which requires a degree of Chinese ability as a necessarity of their entrence examination.Further more,if you would like to go abroad to get higher education or to do reseach,it is impossible for you to live without good English skills.
So,it is no doubt as the communication between foreign people are rising ,the importance of English is rising too.There can not be any competitors at this stage and ever.
And if you do not speak English well,you will sure be lagged behind.
Be no hesitation here and study right now,there is no patriotic or unpatriotic in this topic.English is just a tool which can help us to know the world well and let the world knows us more.
