In the mainland of China,it’s very different from the overseas spending the weakend.If we speaks of extremes:the worst condition was in the Great Culture Revolution; the best is in the period of the reformation and opening.During the Great Culture Revolution,in fact,people hadn’t any relaxed weekend,because the class struggle was endless and people lived in a hard life.In school or university,even there were no holidays or the holidays were very short.Once a year,the winter holiday only had five days in the university in which I was working.At that time,my wife and I lived in two places,the three numbers of my family couldn’t get together during the days of the Spring festival.On thet New Year’s Eve,I was alone in our singles dormitory,when the firecrackers sound rang in my ears,I wept bitterly.
At last,the Chinese people are in the new times of the reformation and opening.Now we have the double-rest days.We can watch TV ,listen to CDs,go on Net or appreciate video at home; and there are also many places where we can take part in indoor or outdoor activities an the weekend.We believe that our weekend will be much better than before.

这个是两句话并列,不是两个名词词组在否定句里并列,所以不用or 改成and

had改成lasted持续更通顺

两句话间要加连词,可以用so that,以至于的意思
