suggestion 的用法
1. 表示“建议,提议”（可数或不可数）：
We are considering your suggestion. 我们正在研究你的建议.
Most of the suggestions made at the meeting were not very practical. 会上提出的建议很多行不通.
2. 表示“暗示,示意,启发；联想,可能性”(不可数)：
Poetry achieves its finest effects by suggestion. 诗歌借助暗示联想达到最佳意境.
二、suggestion 的用法说明
1. 与动词的常用搭配：
make [offer, put forward] a suggestion 提出建议
ask for [call for, invite] 征求建议
2. 表示按照某人的建议,通常与介词 at 连用.如：
I ordered a steak at his suggestion. 我根据他的建议点了一份牛排.
At my suggestion we went on a picnic. 按照我的建议,我们举行了一次野餐.
3. 表示“提议,建议”且后接that从句（表语从句或同位语从句）时,从句用虚拟语气(should+动词原形).如：
My suggestion is that we should tell him. 我的建议是我们应该告诉他.
She made a suggestion that each worker (should) contribute one day’s pay. 他建议每个工人捐献一天的工资.
Her suggestion was that they carry on their conversation in French. 她的建议是他们用法语进行对话.

动词suggest有如下一些用法:
一、有"建议"的意思.advise,propose也有此义,请比较它们用法的异同:
1)都可接名词作宾语
Shesuggested/advised/proposedanearlystart.她建议早一点出发.
Wesuggested/advised/proposedavisittothemuseumthenextday.我们建议明天去参观博物馆.
2)都可接动名词作宾语
Isuggested/advised/proposedputtingoffthesportsmeet.我建议将运动会延期.

3)都可接that宾语从句,that从句用should+动词原形,should可以省略.

Wesuggested/advised/proposedthathe(should)goandmakeanapologytohisteacher.我们建议他去向老师道歉.
4)advise可接动词不定式复合宾语,propose可接不定式作宾语.
Iadvisedhimtogiveupthefoolishidea.=Isuggested/proposedhis/himgivingupthefoolishidea.我建议他放弃那愚蠢的念头.(suggest和propose在口语里可接动名词的复合宾语).

二、有"提出"的意思.如:
Hesuggestedadifferentplantohisboss.他向老板提出了一个不同的计划.
XiaoWangsuggestedawaytosolvetheproblem.小王提出了一个解决这个问题的办法.
三、有"暗示、表明"的意思.其主语往往是事物,而不是人.
1)接名词或动名词作宾语.
Thesimplehousesuggestedamodestincome.这座简朴的房子表明(房主的)收入并不高.
Herpalefacesuggestedbadhealth.她脸色苍白,看来身体不好.
Thethoughtofsummersuggestsswimming.一想到夏天就使人们联想到游泳.
2)接宾语从句,从句用陈述语气.如:
Thedecisionsuggestedthathemightbringhisfamily.这个决定表明他可以把家属带来.
Theexpressiononhisfacesuggestedthathewasveryangry.他脸上的表情表明他很生气.
四、在主语从句Itissuggestedthat...及名词suggestion后面表示具体建议的表语从句、同位语从句都应用should+动词原形,should可以省略.如:
Itwassuggestedthatwe(should)giveaperformanceattheparty.人们建议我们在晚会上表演节目.
Hissuggestionwasthatthedebts(should)bepaidofffirst.他的建议是先把债务还清.
Thedoctorsmadeasuggestionthatthenewhospital(should)notbesetuponthehill.医生们建议不要把新医院建在山上.
区别:Suggestion 与advice都可作“建议”解释,但suggestion为可数名词,指对某件事或某个问题,尤其是为改进工作或解决问题而提出的“意见或建议”,常用make a suggestion. advice一般指有经验或有业务专长的人对某一行动提出带有指点或指教性的“意见、建议或劝告”.如：医生对病人的医嘱、老师对学生的指教等,它是不可数名词,只能用a piece of , a bit of ,some 等修饰,advice作“劝告”“意见”解释,常用take advice, give advice, follow advice等词组.
