China is a unified nation consisting of many different ethnic groups.Fifty-six different ethnic groups make up the great Chinese national family.Because the Han people accounts for more than ninety percent of China's population,the remaining fifty-five groups are generally referred to as "ethnic minorities." Next to the majority Han,the Mongolian,Hui,Tibetan,and Uygur peoples comprise the largest ethnic groups.Although China's ethnic minorities do not account for a large portion of the population,they are distributed over a vast area,residing in every corner of China.
From north to south,China's ocean straits consist of the Bohai,Taiwan,Bashi,and Qiongzhou Straits.China possesses 20,000 kilometers of land border,plus 18,000 kilometers of coastline.Setting out from any point on China's border and making a complete circuit back to the starting point,the distance traveled would be equivalent to circling the globe at the equator.
China is one of the countries with the greatest diversity of wildlife in the world.There are more than 6,266 species of vertebrates,10 percent of the world's total.
China is also one of the countries with the most abundant plant life in the world.There are more than 32,000 species of higher plants,and almost all the major plants that grow in the northern hemisphere's frigid,temperate and tropical zones are represented in China.
After 50 years' planned and large-scale economic construction,China today is one of the major economic powers with the greatest potential of development in the world,and its people live a comparatively well-off life as a whole.From 1953 to 2000,China had successfully completed nine five-year plans and marked achievements had been made,laying a firm foundation for future economic development.Since the implementation of reform and opening-up in 1979,China's economy has grown at an unprecedentedly rapid speed.

China is a nation with a glorious long history. During the splendid 5,000 thousand years, the Chinese nation has created the unprecedented culture. To list just a few, I am to introduce the Tea Culture, the Dragon Culture and the Buddha Culture.
The Tea Culture was established long long ago, and till now there hasn’t been a correct answer when it exactly came into being. Lu Yu (the Tang Dynasty), writing《Cha Jing》, is considered an expert in tea. Tea not only tastes good, makes people healthy physically, but it builds up one’s spirit and inspiration as well. As a consequence, people have been affected and attracted by tea from the very remote.
The Dragon Culture can also be dated back to the ancient times. The dragon is an imaginary creature, with a snake-like body, fish-like scales, deer-like horns and eagle-like claws. It is often associated with empire, power and so on. People hold fear and respect for the dragon. On the other side, the dragon also symbolizes luck and wealth. What’s more, the Chinese nation label themselves as the offspring of Dragon!
The Buddha Culture plays an important role. Though the Buddhism was set up in India, it developed rapidly in China. Furthermore, the effect endures till today. Temples are always packed with people praying for anything they want, such as wisdom, love, luck, fortune and so on.
The above is only a glance at the Chinese culture. Many more treasures are waiting for us to discover, preserve and publicize. We feel proud of our spectacular culture.
