答：这是一个很好的问题。talkon...的回答很不错，但是A为什么不行，这个问题确实难回答。
本题涉及到where引导的从句的三重性：
1. 定语从句：I live in the place where Luxun was born. 我住在Luxun出生的那个地方。where引导定语从句，修饰先行词the place.
2. 状语从句：I live where Luxun was born. where引导地点状语从句，=in the place where+定从。
3. 名词性从句：This is where Luxun was born. 这就是Luxun的出生地。where引导一个名词性从句（表语从句）相当于一个名词=the place where -定从。
本题D正好引导的是一个地点状语从句，能说通，表示：他建议我住【在空气比较新鲜的地方】

所以说A项in where...中的in是多余的，不必要的，相对D而言，并不是最佳。

不过，就象有时候有必要用in here一样，用in where-从句的情况也有可能。但不是本题句中。

PS:有一首歌名叫Get In Where You Fit In
可以支持楼主的这个想法，不过，这是黑人的rap, 是歌名，而且get in作为一短语动词的结合力较强，已经忽略了in的介词性而作为一个整体来看了，没有live in这个短语动词。live与in的结合力不强。所以并不能说明问题。只能说明，介词后是可以跟名词性从句where 从句的。（这个论点由from where-从句就可以证明了的）
