急求老人与海的英文介绍与作者海明威的英文简介
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works.Told in language of great simplicity and power,it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal——a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts,in strikingly contemporary style, the classic thene of courage in the face of defeat,of personal triumph won from los.Written in 1952,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature
Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21,1899 – July 2,1961) was an American novelist,short-story writer, and journalist. He was part of the 1920s expatriate community in Paris,as well as the veterans of World War One later known as "the Lost Generation",as described in his posthumous memoir A Moveable Feast.("'That's what you are. That's what you all are,' Miss Stein said.'All of you young people who served in the war.You are a lost generation.'" Stein had overheard a garage owner use the phrase to criticize a mechanic.) He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea,and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
Hemingway's distinctive writing style is characterized by economy and understatement,in contrast to the style of his literary rival William Faulkner. It had a significant influence on the development of twentieth-century fiction writing. His protagonists are typically stoic men who exhibit an ideal described as "grace under pressure." Many of his works are now considered canonical in American literature.
