Gmat SC疑问
6.People that are well-informed know that Bordeaux is a French region whose most famous export is the wine which bears its name.
解释Which hears its name:INCORRECT.The context of this sentence calls for an essential clause to modify the wine, since the point of the clause is to identify the wine.If the sentence ended with the wine,it would be incomplete. The clause should therefore begin with that rather than which.
11.Based on the recent decline in enrollment, the admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies.
The admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies based on the recent decline in enrollment

虽然GMAC承认that和which有争议,但是标准的用法是that要用于限制性定语从句,即没有逗号(eg,i have some books that were bought by Tim----正确.I have some books which were bought by Tim--错误),而which只能用于非限制性定语从句,即有逗号(eg,i have some books, which were bought by Tim----正确.I have some books, that were bought by Tim--错误)
Q2:
Based on the recent decline in enrollment, the admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies.
Based on the recent decline in enrollment在此句做前置定语.
The admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies based on the recent decline in enrollment
The admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies, based on the recent decline in enrollment
此处based on the recent decline in enrollment的属性是分词(加了个逗号就不是定语了!
The admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies, basing on the recent decline in enrollment,这个句子就对了.
PS:The admissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies, basing on the recent decline in enrollment这句话,其实严格来说是错的,因为分词的正确使用还有另外一个条件,即前句为后句直接原因,这句话前句The admissions office decided to do sth逻辑上并不是导致basing on sth的直接原因,所以严格来说是错的. Basing on the recent decline in enrollment做定语为正确写法
