We live in very competitive society, this is especially relevant for callow graduates in the peregrination to employment. Many of the young graduates don't have adequate working experience, which inadvertently makes them unattractive for potential employers. However, by showing one's accomplishments, one can have a higher chance of getting employed. This is shown in many instances in the course of history.
In the film "The Pursuit of HappYness", the protagonist Chris Gardner has a very unauspicious resume. With only high school education, Gardner faces tremendous pressure in the competition for stocks broker. However, while meeting the firm's employer Jay Whistle, Gardner demonstrated his perseverance and intelligence by other deeds, which ultimately earned him respect from the various examiners, and in the end, he was successfully enrolled in the stocks broker program.
Another prime example of this concept is illustrated in the film "21". The protagonist Ben Campbell, a destitute but academically excellent student, is trying to get the scholarship from Harvard Medical School. During the interview, the interviewer asked Campbell:"What are some of your sparkling life experiences? What makes you leap off the page?" If Campbell hadn't revealed his previous obstacles in life, he wouldn't have gotten the scholarship.
As demonstrated in the various exampels above, one's strength and accomplishments have a very high place in the eyes of potential employers. Not many influential people have the keen eyes to see from a mundane person his/her latent potential. So by revealing your strengths, you give them a very impressive image of yourself, which would in the end help you to a more successful life.
