prevent是指阻止其他人或事物做某事,搭配是prevent sb./sth.from doing,例如prevent him from selling the house,“阻止他卖房子”
avoid是指自己避免做某事,搭配是avoid doing,例如I have done so to avoid seeing the man.“我这样做是想避免看到那个人”.
avert v.转移vt.防止,避免,一般是用于避免事务的发生.
Many highway accidents can be averted by courtesy.
互相礼让,便可避免公路上的许多交通事故.
意思差不多，但用法不一样。
avert 多用于被动语态， be averted。
avoid 多用于 avoid sb/sth 或 avoid doing sth。
prevent 用于 prevent sb from doing sth 或 prevent 某种 disease。
