The problems for the tea industry have been made worse as many consumer have switched to slft frinks and coffee.Tea is seen by many consumers, especially young ones, as dull and old fashioned. There is also a concern over the quality of tea which varies enormously between producers. Some producers continue to use traditional methods producing full floured tea whereas a number of the newer producers have moved to more mechanized processes creating harsher, ground leaves.
The tea industry is now trying to reverse the decline in demand and price through adverts which promote tea as a natural, authentic and healthy drink. The introduction of new flavors and the attempt to set up ‘tea shops’ based on the Starbucks coffee empire are all intended to change consumers buying patterns
