英语语法最根本的原则就是“一个句子只能有一个谓语动词/谓语部分”（动词的原形/单三/过去式都算谓语形式）.如果一个句号里出现了两个或两个以上的谓语形式,那说明这个句号里有两个或两个以上的句子,也就是说,这个句子中除了主句之外,肯定还有从句/并列句.
比如：He is ill,he is absent from school.
这个句子就不对,因为它有两个谓语,不符合一个句子有一个谓语的要求.那怎么办呢?可以把其中一个变成从句,或者,中间加一个并列连词让它连接两个并列句.可以改为：

一般说来,句子结构复杂很大程度上是因为里面某个成分由从句充当了.判断句子结构是不是正确,就可以从谓语动词入手,看看它是不是符合上面说的原则.比如,看到一个句子里有两个谓语,那是不是除了主句还有一个从句/并列句,如果是的话,那说明句子大的结构没有问题,再看看是不是每个谓语部分的结构都完整就好了（比如,看看这个动词有没有主语,有没有宾语等.）
