阮玲玉,中国早期影星,原名阮凤根,学名阮玉英.广东中山县人,1910年出生于上海.因为当工人的父亲早逝,孩童时代就随母为人帮佣.母亲节衣缩食,让她上学读书,就读于上海崇德女子中学.1926年,为自立谋生,奉养母亲,考入上海明星影片公司,主演处女作《挂名夫妻》,从此踏入影坛.
之后,相继在“明星”、“大中华百合”公司主演近20部影片,所扮演在爱情、婚姻方面屡遭不幸的少女或娇媚泼辣的风流女子.1930年进联华影业公司,主演该公司创业作《故都春梦》,扮演妓女燕燕获得成功,奠定了她在影坛的地位.
