My impression of 2008
　　Hello,everyone.My name is …I come from Dongcheng District Vocational Education Central School.It’s my honor to stand here on this beautiful Saturday afternoon to share with you my impression of 2008.
　　2008 is such a common number,but it is special for all the Chinese.Why?Because we set a new image of China to the rest of the world.In this year,we Chinese showed others our unity facing the earthquake of Sichuan,our enthusiasm hosting the 29th Olympic Games,and our self-improvement launching Shenzhou VII into space.As a senior high school student,I am really proud of my great motherland.On the other hand,I have done my own part to contribute to her.2008 is forgettable for me.
　　May12,2008 at 14:28,an earthquake struck Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province.More than 60,000 people lost their lives and thousands of people wee homeless.Facing such a disaster,we weren’t frightened; everyone did their best to help the people in Wenchuan.Many soldiers and police didn’t take care of their own lives and families,they looked the misfortune and difficulty as their own ones and saved lives as many as they could.In many cities,blood banks have been reported up to saturation,and volunteers wishing to denote blood have to register and wait for to be notified.When I heard the news,I was shocked.Then in my mind,I was eager to give my own help to the people in Sichuan.Although I could not go to the front lines,I did not doubt to denote my pocket money as most of the Chinese people did.It was pity that there was a big disaster in this Olympic year.However,we had not been defeated,instead,we had become more united and show great resolution to overcome all kinds of challenges to make our country more thriving and prosperous.
　　Shortly after the disaster,the 29th Olympic Games was held in Beijing.Chinese were suffering from the misery brought by the earthquake,but we still decorated the city with banners displaying Olympic symbols,Olympic mascots and the Olympic slogan and welcomed all the visitors with our smiles.The visitors were entertained by the hospitable citizens and volunteers.More than 1,000,000 volunteers devoted their time and energy to serving the Olympic Games.That was one of the important reasons for the success of our Olympic Games.I was lucky,I was chosen to be one of them.My oral English had been practiced before the Games and it was helpful at the moment.Using the English,I helped some foreigners.I showed the right directions,introduced the interesting attractions in Beijing and solved some problems for them.At the bird’s nest I saw some matches with my classmates.Just like most of the Chinese,I clapped the athletes heartily.Some foreign athletes were moved when they heard the applause for them.A weightlifter from Colombia said,“ I appreciate all the audience.They gave me a big clap.It will become one of my pleasant memories of Beijing Olympic Games.” We Chinese hosted a very successful Olympic Games and made a lot of friends through our enthusiasm.
　　Besides the moment Li Ning lit the torch,we should remember another one.At 9:10 p.m.on September 25,2008,through the unremitting efforts of Chinese scientists,the Shenzhou VII spacecraft was successfully launched into space!Mission commander Zhai Zhigang left the Shenzhou VII spacecraft to float in orbit for just under 15 minutes,making China the third country to complete a space walk after the United States and the former Soviet Union."Your spacewalk was a complete success.It's a major breakthrough in the development of our manned space program," Hu Jintao told the astronaut by radio.I felt very excited when I heard it.It showed that our country had made great progress since 2005.our advanced technology,economic development,splendid culture,we have to stand tall among the nations of the world.Believe that soon we will be even more shocked the world.
