在英语里,表所属的 “撇号” （The Apostrophe）有一定的用法规则.
这个问题其实不简单,很多土生土长的说英语的本地人也时常弄不明白.就你的问题来解释的话,表所属的撇号有这样的规则：
add'to the end of plural nouns that end in -s:（例如）
two cats' toys
three friends' letters
the countries' laws
但是如果是 名词 of 复数名词,而且后一个复数名词是以s结尾的话,那么就不用写成 s' 的形式.例如：
the food of cats = the cats' food
the lives of paitents (句子里的：病人们的生活状况 或生命）= the patients' lives
按这个规则,即使是 our,their 这样的复数所属,也是一样只加 s,而不用 “撇”.
例如：
books of ours = our books
money of theirs = their money
你举的 book of mine = my book 或 books of mine = my books 是因为 my-mine 是个不规则拼写,所以才容易混淆.而 his 就跟规则说的一样了啊,比如：book of his = his book,这个就不用加 “撇”了.

而你举的例子呢 the(a) book of mine意思是我众多书中的一本，相当于the(a) book of my books
