imagine一词能跟名词、动名词作宾语,还可以跟现在分词作宾语补足语:
eg.I can imagine the scene clearly in my mind.
Can you imagine George cooking the dinner?
有的词典上还有imange sb.to be +...的用法：
如：She imagines herself to be a true artist.
Imagine yourself (to be) rich and famous
这样从形式上看,BD都有可能.
但是作上面的用法时,它的解释是：to form (a picture or idea) in the mind.
而当它作to suppose or have an idea about ,esp.mistakenly or without proof 解时,它的用法是后跟that从句或 wh-词从句：
He imagines that poeple don't like him.
原句中的意显然是“以为”.因为后面有跟现在的比较,所以不会是“曾经想象它很大”,而只能是“原以为它比（后来看到的）要大的多）”但没有看到之前,怎会有比较呢?这又是个悖论!
所以此题不好,建议老师别用.
要象表达：当我们看见那家工厂时大吃一惊.我们原以为它比实际要大得多 可以这么说：
