说到牵引力(Traction),可能很多人首先想到的是驱动汽车前进的引擎动力,认为重量大,启动慢的卡车比起重量轻,启动快的轿车牵引力小.那么是不是这样呢?试想一下一辆在光滑冰面上轮胎打滑而无法前进的汽车,尽管油门踩到最大,引擎达到最大红线转速下,也无法牵引汽车半步的情形.可见推动汽车前进的原因并非直接来自引擎动力,而是来自轮胎和地面接触而产生的摩擦力.所以通常我们把摩擦力作为牵引力来考虑.
我们知道ABS是用于汽车在减速时轮胎打滑时恢复原有Traction/摩擦力的刹车控制系统.与之相对的是,在起动和加速时轮胎也会出现打滑而导致运动滞后的现象.如我们在红灯变绿灯后,经常会听到一些汽车起动时轮胎空转打滑时与地面磨擦的啸叫声.造成这种情况是因为驾驶员在起步时猛踩下油门,使引擎突然输出过大的扭矩,从而导致轮胎失去Traction/摩擦力,产生空转打滑现象.最原始的办法就是直接由驾驶员松一点油门,恢复原来低速起动时应有的Traction.但驾驶员总是期望汽车按自己的意愿行驶,踩下油门就应该加速.为此,工程师们在ABS的基础上开发了Traction control.
目前的Traction control系统多使用电子控制形式,采用同样ABS所使用的传感器,通过检测前后轮胎角速度的差异来确定是否某个轮胎转动得比其它的轮胎更快,而处于空转打滑的状态.当这一速度差异达到一定数字后,系统进行判断并自动修正.Traction Control系统根据不同的车和应用有不同的形式.主要的办法有增加刹车系统压力到打滑的轮胎而阻止轮胎空转打滑
一些Traction control和ABS系统虽然使用同样刹车硬件,但它们的功能是完全相反的,ABS作用在汽车刹车轮胎抱死打滑的时候,目的是增加轮胎转动的角速度;而Traction control系统则作用在轮胎加速转动时空转打滑的情况,目的是让轮胎减小空转转动的速度,保持与地面的最大接触.
