The study area is a whole world map (polygon shapefile),excluding oceans.I see its description shows the Geographic Coordinate System is WGS1984.prg.I need to edit the map and recalculate the geometry,so need to use Projected Coordinate System. Is there such a system for the world? Also after I changed the GCS to a PCS,such as "WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere).prj",the units are still decimal degrees, both in ArcCatolog and ArcMap,as you can see in the enclosed picture (though the extent shows meter). Also the numbers are very small, like (-0.002,0.001) decimal degrees and would not change much for distant places.
The topic should be Projection, change from Geographic Coordinate System to Projected  Coordinate System
