Chinese OCB scale.This scale was originally
developed by Farh et al.(1997) as a measure of organi-
zational citizenship behaviors of Chinese employees.
They labeled the 20-item Chinese OCB scale on five
factors:identification with the company,altruism to-
ward colleagues,conscientiousness,interpersonal
harmony,and protecting company resources.DeVel-
lis (1991) asserted that extremely strong statements
may elicit too much agreement when used in Likert
scales.Likewise,in Chinese culture,items that are
too strongly worded may result in respondents dis-
agreeing with an extremely strong negative statement.
Therefore,this study adopted 12 items of the first
three factors because the other two factors (protecting
company resources and interpersonal harmony) may
have resulted as an artifact of their negative phrasing.
