The table listed the average travel distance of each person using various modes of transport in Britain,with five of the travelling method listed having an increase in the average distance travelled per person over the 15 year period.The average travel distance of each person by car increased from 3,199 miles in year 1985 to 4,806 miles in year 2000.Average travel distance by train increased from 286 miles to 366 miles,while that of other modes of tranport increased from 450 miles to 585 miles.If the rate of increase is determined by the ratio between the average distance traveled in year 2000 and year 1985,then the average travel distance for long distance bus had almost doubled in the 15 years recorded.However,the most astonishing increase is not that of the long distance bus,but that of the taxi with its avarage travel distance increase from 13 miles per person to 42 miles per person.
On the other hand,three of the listed modes of transport had a decrease in the average travel distance per person,and they are by walking,bicycle and local bus.Average travel distance of local bus decreased sharply from 429 miles per person to 124 miles per person.That of the bicycle decreased by approximately 8 percent to only 41 miles in year 2000.And local bus has decreased from 429 miles per person to 274 miles per person.
In conclusion,according to this table,we can clearly see that the average travel distance of each person using various modes of transport had changed over the 15 year period from year 1985 to year 2000.
