Leehom Wang(王力宏),known for his unique blend of Western hip-hop and traditional Chinese music,is one of Asia's hottest and most influential pop stars.Born May 17,1976,in Rochester,New York,Wang developed an early interest in music.He started singing at age 3 and,within a few years,learned to play the violn and piano.While most of his family is medicallu-minded-his father and two brothers are all doctors-Wang's passion has always been music.Even though he was accepted to several top universities,Wang chose a smaller college and pursued a career in music.
After signing his contract,Wang went to qork immediately on his first album,which came out in December 1995.TO date,he has released 12 Mandarin albums and two japancese albums,selling more than seven million copies.
In 1999,at age 22,Wang beacame the youngest person ever to receive a Golden Melody Award for “Best Male Artist of the year.”Since then,he has taken home 13 more Golden Melody Awards,the most prestigious honor in the world of Chinese pop music.
In 2004,Wang created a unique international Chinese sound with Shangri-La,a groundbreaking mix of Eastern and Western musical styles.As a master of more than 10 instruments,Wang used tribal sounds from different regions of china,including Yunnan(云南)and Tibet(西藏).He continued this blended style into his next album,2005's Heroes of Earth.In that album,Wang included more aspects of classical Chinese music like the erhu(二胡)and elements from Beijing Opera.
