The book is unique, because it is written in the eyes of a dog, Buck, who was abducted from North Carolina to Yukon and sold as a sled dog. Buck had to adapt to the harsh climates, harsher treatments and cruel competition in the place that he was forced to call home. He grew, eventually beating his enemies, to become a top sled dog, but was then sold to several other owners. Finally, he had a good master, John Thornton, but his owner was later killed. In the end, Buck ran off to the wild to become the leader of a wolf pack. This book is not just about a dog's life, it's about a creature's fight for survival and finally giving up the good and bad of the modern world for the wildness.
