Summer Bonnet’s Villanelle
How sad to see the summer bonnet lone,
Forgotten when the autumn’s breezes blow,
When the empty trees let the winter moan.
How easily the dust draws ever nigh,
And the bright memorizes of summer fade,
Watching the world as it continues by.
Never remembered are summers so bright,
As the young gaily look ahead in time,
And the old see through the years void of light.
The summer wind does not stir the laces,
They tremble in joy to be in bright times,
Not seeing ahead to future places.
They thrive in the joy of the beaming youth,
Bonnet and laces not being for more.
Yet nurtured by time,hear this as the truth.
The bonnet will still,forgotten one day,
Alone in the dark,slowly dying so,
Cried for,when seen that last dead it does lay.
Do not let memories darken,I pray.

no one ever will;
Every sorrow or care
in the dear days gone by;
Was made bright by the light
of the smile in your eye;
Like a candle that's set
in a window at night;
Your fond love has cheered me
and guided me right;
Sure I love the dear silver
that shines in your hair;
And the brow that's all furrowed
and wrinkled with care;
I kiss the dear fingers
so toil warm for me;
Oh! God bless you and
keep you, mother machree!
