第一句中,larger 是形容词（比较级）,其后没有名词,所以不能加the.
另外,专有名词Austrilia and Canada前,不能加 the；
第二句中,larger后有名词 country,因此前面要加the,表特指.

国家是特定名词，前面不需要冠词，所以第一句前不要冠词
而第二句冠词the在larger之前，原因是为了特制哪一个国家，因为两个国家已经限定，就英国和澳大利亚而已，所以必须要加the加以限定。此外，比较级和最高级前一般都要用冠词The。
类似例子：Who is the taller of the two boys? Tom! (原因是那两个孩子已经是特指了，就Tom和另外一个男孩子)...
