Parties to Documentary Credit Transaction
Parties that are usually involved in a documentary credit transaction are mainly the following ones:
1、 Applicant for the Credit
The applicant for the credit,also referred to as the “opener”,is normally the importer.When a business contract is concluded between an importer and an exporter,it is the former’s obligation to arrange for a credit to be opened or issued in favor of the latter.
According to UCP 500 Article 3 a.:“…Consequently,the undertaking of a bank to pay,accept and pay Draft(s) or negotiate and/or to fulfill any other obligation under the Credit,is not subject to claims or defenses by the Applicant resulting from his relationships with the Issuing Bank or the Beneficiary.”
2、 Beneficiary
A beneficiary refers to the exporter under a documentary credit transaction,because such a credit is considered to benefit the exporter by its assurance of payment to him and this payment term is usually incorporated in the sales contract at the request of the exporter.
According to UCP 500 Article 3 b.:“A Beneficiary can in no case avail himself of the contractual relationships existing between the bankers or between the Applicant and the Issuing Bank.”

二、 受益人
受益人是指在跟单信用证交易下的出口商（卖方）,因为这种信用证下卖方对于支付
的款项这一利益会有所保障,并且这种支付方式通常会在卖方的要求下包含在销售合同里.
根据《跟单信用证统一惯例》500出版物第10条b项规定：“受益人在任何情况下不得利用其与银行、申请人、开证行之间的关系.”
