For the Indian people, death is not dreadful at all.India is the birthplace of Buddhism, where the religion was once [1] professed by the majority of the population. The body has been absolutely despised in Buddhism because it is considered an obstacle to transcendence. The human body is compared to an unworthy "stinky skinbag".
India is a nation with perhaps the most profound insight into death, and therefore a nation that shows least fear of death. This, however, has led to a pessimistic view towards life. Many believers of Hinduism [2] are skeptical to any form of life, and view it as a painful punishment instead of an opportunity or award.Among all the differences, there is one thing in common in these religions:"ultimate relief" or muksa as the highest ideal, first of all relief from desire, and ultimately freedom from life.Relief can be achieved through either of them, but not perfected until both are accomplished.
For this reason, the Indians hold a more negative view towards life that is grounded in a deeper, also more transcendental view towards death.
