The notion of globalization is that people from all the world communication,contacting and influencing each other.In the past decades, with the development of Internet and other communication technologies, the globalization was accelerated. As a result, the culture of different regions becomes more and more common. It is very hard to judge whether it is beneficial or harmful.
On one hand, the more common culture may lead to the spread of common sense. With similiar opinion, people may understand the others, especially who have the different cultural background, more easily. Most of the confilcts are caused by misunderstanding. Moreover, the spread and communication of culture can help people develop the same habbit. Then, the larger consumers groups push the growth of one culture industry. For example, not only the Japanese but also many people from other countries love Japanese animation, they buy the video, watch cartoon channel. This leads to the growth of animation industry.To some extend, it helps the development of culture.
On the other hand, the globalization of culture will probably harm traditional and regional culture. As Cowen said "The question is that we communicate in an open-minded society, and the information spread quickly so that the culture is easily become a common thing which most people can accept, which can be called low culture. Then that kind of culture will lose traditional humanistic and become a vulgar thing." This kind of worry is quite reasonable. When teenages talks to each other, generally they prefer the topic of pop music more than poem writen by Shakespear. The problem is that there should be someone who read the work of Shakespear otherwise decades later us human will lose our culture treasure. And all we will have is one kind of "low culture".
As far as I am concerned, the globalization of culture is normal. The world is becoming smaller and this trend is unstopable. What we have to do is to protect the traditional and regional culture. It will not be too difficult, because the work of Shakespear is also amazing and attractive.
