Hello,everyone!Here is Wendy,giving a speech.In order to help you know more about Wendy.I wanna tell you something interesting about myself.And the story begins like this.When I was in Grade 2 in my high school,my teacher asked us to prepare a speech about anything that we wanna talk about.One day,it was my turn to do the job.Although I thought I had prepared so well,I still felt a bit nervous.And what’s worse,I decided to add some body language to my speech,which I thought would help a lot.However,it was just stupid,very very stupid,after I really did this standing in front of the class.
And now I will show you how I did that and how stupid it was.It goes like,"You,you and you,get together!”Ok,this is just part of what I said.I thought,it should have impressed my class deeply.On contrary,I heard hundreds of,oh,no,it should be thousands of laughters.And that is really quite bad.I even didn’t know what had happened.So I continued the speech,but from then I couldn’t find any confidence.
So,this is my story and do you have a better understanding about me?No matter whether you do or not,I am very happy,because all of you have shared my story.And that’s the most important!
I Regain Confidence
I received a devastating（破坏性极大的） blow to my self-confidence in the first interview of my college years.I applied to be a host in our Student Acting Troupe and felt confident that I would be accepted.But one of the panel（全体陪审员） members told me:"You seem inadequate （不适当的,不能胜任的,不够格的）and you are a little vertically（绝顶的,极高的）-challenged." My life has never been the same since.I used bigger heels to complement（补充,补足） my height and psychological maneuvers（精神策略） and tricks to hide my lack of confidence.But no matter how hard I tried to look the part,there was still something missing.
As president of English Club,I organized the rehearsal（排练,排演） of Snow White for an English party.Unfortunately,we could not find an actor to be the last dwarf.It had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in English.Suddenly,all eyes turned to me,and I knew I would have to be the dwarf.To my great surprise and delight,once on stage,I was totally absorbed in the performance and my humorous nature was put to full use.As the dwarf,I was a big hit.
Yes,each of us is only one among millions of others,but each of us is an individual and each of us is unique.Cultivating our individuality(个性,个人特征) will transform（使改变） our lives,making of them a ka'leidoscope（万花筒） of new colors and textures.（质地,构造）
A world deprived（夺去,剥夺,使丧失） of di'versity would be a bland and boring place.The real tragedy is not being short or shy or ugly,but having your identity lost in a world in which everyone is a clone(克隆) of a model cool boy or a flawless（无缺点的,无暇的） charming girl.
Given a choice,I would rather be ugly than live in such a world.I'd rather be a genuine dwarf accompanying a Snow White than be a Snow White among nothing but Snow Whites.I would rather be myself.I would contribute my individual and unique colors to create a more diverse universe.Please,be yourself.
