中国是一个有着五千年文化和历史沉淀的泱泱大国,而美国是一个多民族的国家,只有200多年的历史.中美之间的文化差异是巨大的,这是历史地理条件以及传统思想等多种因素影响而造成的.
中国的传统文化是以儒家思想为核心,历来主张尊卑有别,长幼有序,并受到等级观念的制约.而美国文化主要承袭了基督教中的新教思想,等级观念淡薄.他们更注重个人权益,追求人人平等,没有辈份间过多的礼节.在《刮痧》许大同自己发达以后,将老父亲接到美国照顾,这是典型的中国人的思维,虽然父亲对新的生活不能适应,但内心还是非常幸福的,并且认为这样自己可以好好地孝敬父亲.

《刮痧》所表现的中国人和美国人的差异,不仅在中美两国的法律、道德标准等方面,而且触及法理、观念,甚至中医理论等诸多议题.中美之间文化差异还表现在很多方面,例如美国人习惯用肢体语言拥抱、亲吻等来表达人与人之间的友好和亲近,当人们相互交流时,美国人认为互相注视着对方的眼腈是一件十分重要的事.然而在中国,我们是不善于这种肢体交流的,很多情况下我们还认为直视一个人的眼睛是不谦虚或不尊重对方的表现.这种体现在思维方式,风俗习惯,宗教信仰和非语言交际上的差异是中美乃至中西方在经济文化政治方面有着冲突的一个不可忽略的重要原因.
时空上的差异造成了中美—东西方文化、观念上的不同,进而表现为行为上的冲突.差异性从时间上来说,主要表现为国家的传统与现代之间的矛盾；从空间上来说,由于各国在地域、历史、政治、经济等方面的原因造成了中西方的差异,表现为民族传统精神背景、文化背景、哲学背景等方面.中、西两种文明之间存在文化差异是可以理解的,也是不可避免,要消除这种文化隔阂,就必须要相互增进了解,只有这样才有可能消除误会,正如周总理所说我们要求同存异,相信“无论是怎样的文化沟壑,只要相互交流就能达到谅解.”
中美文化有着差异的同时,也有着对文化趋同、文化融合的一种向往.我要保持文化鲜活性与多元性的同时,增进对彼此的了解,加强交流和沟通,希望在不久的将来,一个“大同”的世界真的会出现在我们面前!
