跨文化交际与外语教学密不可分.这是因为外语教学不仅是传授语言知识,更重要的是要培养学生的交际 能力,培养他们应用外语进行跨文化交际的能力.从这个意义出发,将外语教学看作是跨文化教育的一环更加 恰当一些.80年代中期,我国的大学英语教育统一制定了教学大纲,全国统编了几套符合教学大纲的教材,87 年开始实施四、六级考试,这些都对大面积的英语教学起到了积极的推动作用.但是,由于改革开放的深入发 展,中国迅速地走向世界,社会上对大学毕业生的英语运用能力提出了更高的要求.据浙江大学1993年的调查 ,社会上对本科毕业生听、说、写的要求分别为67.25%、71.11%和61.48%,然而在这些方面,我们的教育却明 显滞后.一方面普遍的应试教育带来了相当的负面影响,另一方面传统的外语教育观还深深地束缚着我们教师 的手脚.中国的学生,从小学直到大学,有的还进入博士生阶段,总共学习十多年的英语,大部分时间和精力 花在查词典、记单词、分析句子结构上.对于中国的学生来说,有了词汇和语法知识就可以阅读,就可以应付 考试,但是,在跨文化交际时往往会出现问题.

The cross cultural intercommunication is closely linked with the foreign language teaching. The reason is that the foreign language teaching does not only imparting the knowledge of language, but importantly cultivating the ability of intercommunication as well, especially the ability of cross cultural intercommunication by using foreign language. From this meaning, it is more proper to consider the foreign language teaching a component element of cross cultural education.
In the mid 1980', we established a unified outline for the English education in Universities. And compiled several sets of textbook according to the outline under the coordination by the state authorities. We started the EPT4 and EPT 6 English test from 1987. All of these have positively promoted the English teaching in a large extent. But with the development and the open policy, China (goes to the world rapidly) plays more and more important role in the world. The society raised higher request for the application capability of English. According to the survey by Zhejiang University, The request for the English listening, speaking and writing to the university graduates reached respectively 67.25%, 71.11% and 61.48%.
However, our education system is still obviously lagging behind in these areas. On one side, the exam-oriented education brings quite some negative impact. On the other, the traditional view of the foreign language education tied up our teachers tightly. The students in China, form primary school to university and some even to Doctor phase, the spend a great deal of time and energy on looking up the words from a dictionary, remember the words, and anlyzing the structure of sentences. To the students in China, he can read if he learnd enough words and grammar. He can deal with the exams. But when they face the situation of cross cultural intercommunication, there usually be problems coming up.
