光纤通信在80年代以后才获得了广泛应用,随着电信技术的发展和用户要求的变换,早期制定的准同步数字系统（PDH）因为没有世界性的技术标准以及PDH本身的一些技术弱点,已不适应高速、宽带、多种媒体信息业务综合、在线实时控制和按需供应等的发展要求,所以必须对原技术体制进行根本性改变,加之以微处理器支持的智能网元的出现,为网络技术体制的改革奠定了基础.正是在这种情况下,一种有机结合高速、大容量光纤传输技术和智能网络技术的新体制—光同步传输网应运而生.
1998年,国际电联标准部ITU-T的前身CCITT,与美国国家标准化协会ANSI的TI委员会达成协议,将SONET修订为世界电信标准,新命名为同步数字体系SDH（Synchronous Digital Hierarchy),使之成为既适用于光纤也适用于微波和卫星传输的完整严密的传输网技术体制.SDH是一种新的数字传输体制,它将成为电信传输体制的一次革命.
本次我研究的是使用SDH设备完成点对点的基础组网方式,这虽然是最简单的组网技术,而且也只需要使用PDH技术就能实现的功能,但是,无论多复杂的网络,都是以它为基础而构建完成的.

People's way of life has been influenced and improved by the arrival of optical fiber communication,it accelerates the transmission of messages.And it has also increased the tempo of life's rhythm of the people,to enable people's life to become richer and more colourful.It was only after the 80s that optical fiber communication became extensively used,following the development of telecommunication technology and the change in users' demand,as it did not meet the world's technological standard,as well as having some technical weaknesses itself,the PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy)system,whose approval was drawn up in the early stage,is no longer suitable to bring the high speed,broad band,multi-media telecommunication business into a state of balance,and to meet the development demand of online real-time control and need-based supply.,therefore,it is necessary to carry out a radical change to the original technology system,additionally,the emergence of intelligent network element,which is supported by microprocessors,has laid down the foundation for the reform of the network technology system.
It was precisely under this kind of condition,that a kind of organic combination of high speed,high capacity optical fiber comminication's transmission technology and the new system of intelligent network element,that the synchronized optical network
came into being at the opportune historic moment.
In 1998,an agreement was signed between CCITT formerly ITU-T (Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunication Union)and the TI committee of the American National Standard Institute,to revise SONET as World Telecommunication Standard and was given a new name SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy),so as to make it adaptable to both
optical fiber communication and microwave and satellite transmissions' tight transmission network technological system.
SDH is a kind of new digital transmission system,it would become telecommunication transmission system's one-time revolution.
This research uses SDH's facilities to complete point-to-point type of foundation group network pattern,although this is the most simple type of group network technology,as well as needing only to use PDH's technology to achieve the function,however,regardless of how complex a network might be,its successful construction is based on its foundation.
