英语翻译
Keeping Slug Woman Alive,by Greg Sarris, has seven other chapters besides the one in New Voices, which critiques an ethnographer's presentation of Porno women's lives.Together the chapters form the book's four parts.Krupat would call this a book of "ethnocriticism." Sarris,in the independently written chapters, delves into the way Mabel McKay and Essie Parrish, keepers and Dreamers of the Bole Maru tradition, expressed themselves,to Greg,to each other, and to a Stanford University audience, among others.Sarris masterfully depicts the cul- tural gulf between these traditionalists and the questions from the Stanford students. He prefaces Mabel McKay's trip to Stanford with the story of how making the movie of Essie Parrish called The Sucking Doctor led to her death,by "the showing of our ceremonies to people unfamiliar with our rules.'She had to sacrifice,' Mabel said.'I seen it in my Dream.' " (p.63).
Keeping Slug Woman Alive intertwines Sarris's search for his identity/pater-nity/maternity and his experience of his Porno mentors in the context of post-modern academic discourse.I have found that students—Native, mixed, and non-Native—respond to this text not only because it teaches them about Essie Parrish and Mabel McKay's practice and life as Bole Maru Dreamers but also because it gives them a chance to position what they are learning in a personal way of self-discovery/recovery,just as it does for Greg Sarris. The book is not simple going or easy fare for all undergraduates. The academic stretch and quest between two worlds makes the experience contested and difficult. This stands in contrast to Sarris's second book,Mabel McKay:Weaver of Dreams, which inter-twines Sarris's search for his roots and identity and Mabel's wonderful life history in a masterfully informative way, without the starts and stops and the academic and postmodern ponderings of Keeping Slug Woman Alive. Both are important texts.

女子的生命,保持弹头萨里斯掺杂在一起,对他的身份的追寻/佩特- nity /产假,以及对自己色情的背景下导师的经验后现代的学术讨论.我发现,学生的积分,混合,
