In the name of human nature, for example, Aristotle and mostthinkers up to the eighteenth century defended slavery. Or in order toprove the rationality and necessity of the capitalist form of society, scholarshave tried to make a case for acquisitiveness, competitiveness, and selfishnessas innate (天生的) human traits. Popularly, one referscynically to “human nature” in accepting the inevitability of such undesirablehuman behavior as greed, murder, cheating and lying.
