一般过去时主要用在过去时间内发生并完成的动作,用来强调一个过去的事实,通常会有过去的时间作为时间状语.比如说He went to H.K.yesterday.
现在完成时主要用在过去的动作对现在产生的影响或者过去的动作持续至今并有可能继续下去.常用的时间状语有since,for,recently...例如第一种情况例句Have you seen the film?Yes,it's boring.(看过电影,对说话人的影响是觉得电影不好看)第二种情况例句I have learned English for 3 years.（三年前学的英语,现在仍在学,今后有可能继续学习）
过去完成时一般指的是过去的过去.过去完成时的句子中一般会出现两个或两个以上的动作,其中一个是一般过去式,另一个或几个动作在这个动作之前,就成为过去的过去.比如说The train had left before I arrived at the railway station.这句话里有两个动作,一个是火车离开,一个是到达车站.对于说话人现在来说到达车站是一个已经发生并完成的动作,所以用一般过去时,而火车在这之前就已经离开,也就是说在一般过去时之前,那就用过去完成时.

（3）过去完成时常用于以下固定句型：
1）hardly, scarcely, barely + 过去完成时（部分倒装）+ when + 过去时。例如：
