一般来说,国家前不需要用定冠词the ,比如说America,Ausralia,Russia...都是不需要的,但是the United States 是特例,究其原因,其实是特别指出了美国的联邦性质,‘美利坚合众国’,若无the ,单是‘United States ’的话,就只能译为‘联合的州’,所以加上the ,是特指了组成美国的50个州,这50t个特定的州联合而成的政体就叫做美国了,所以the United States 也就在意义用法上大致等同于America.
