The common age of children who now possess a cell phone is eight years of age.Now,maybe the only thing they have to text about is their favorite cartoon character,but as they grow older their texts are sure to become more involved and potentially lead to inappropriate material.
Whatever the age of your child,whether they are tweens or teens,start out as you mean to go on.If you intend to read their text messages,monitor their calls and keep on top of the situation,make it known before the phone is purchased that those are the terms of the deal.They get a phone,but you reserve the right to read text messages,look at their call log and monitor the minutes they are using.The common line about violating their privacy doesn't exist when it comes to keeping them safe,not to mention the fact that you are paying the bill making their privacy null and void.
