Undoubtedly,human beings are becoming more powerful by developing science and technology because science and technology advancement can benefit people and make their lives more wonderful and convenient.For instance,some diseases thought to be fatal in the past can be cure now.We will not scare illnesses so much any more and can live longer.
However,new problems appear gradually as we are developing science and technology with a full speed.Some are deeply influencing our living environment.Nevertheless,people do not pay much attention on them because they are not fatal,or we can say,they do not kill people immediately.Pathetically,it it to late for humen to realize the fatalness of those potential influences.
An undisputed fact,we are threaten by nature messed up by human activities,shows its overwhelming revenging power everywhere.Take ozone hole for example,ozonosphere is an indispensable part the earth atmosphere protecting all creatures on the blue planet from burning and radiating by rays from the sun and the universe.Therefore,the ozonosphere is praised as the protecting umbrella of human beings.If we lose it,the earth would be radiated badly by ultraviolet ray,which directly causes species extinction.This is not arresting one's attention ,but happening as vivid facts.Lots of places have already appeared a variety of inauspicious portents.Take a look at the living things under South Pole ozone hole first.In the area on the verge of Magellan Strait in South Chile,jumping and joyful fishes have become blind and dull; the wandering flock of sheep become blind sheep because of suffering from cataract; the jumping rabbit can be easily captured because they have bad eyesight.How pathetic and thought-provoking these scenes are.Can you imagine the chief criminal is chlorine,a refrigeration reagent frequently uesd in industry and refrigerators and air conditioners in our houses?
In my opinion,our living circumstance is far more important than science and technology advancement and we can not give up science and technology advancement at all,so sustainable development is indispensable because it attempts to bridge the divide between science and technology advancement and environmental protection,while taking into account other issues traditionally associated with development.It seeks to develop means of supporting science and technology advancement while supporting biodiversity.Sustainable development is development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
