事实上，很多人吸烟，也许有利于提高工作效率，促进生产，当然这个帐是算不清楚的，经济学理性在这个地方没有用武之地。说自愿的交易会使交易各方都受益的，这要看交易条件，有时候交易是一种强制，社会不总是两个人的社会，交易的后果可能影响其他人，那么其他人也可以主张自己的权利。这个时候怎么办？这里面有信息不对称的问题，现代交易中这种信息不对称比比皆是，与熟人社会完全不同。交易处于自愿有利于双反，我觉得只是一个前现代的假设，现代社会中的交易要复杂得多，比如还需要有没有欺诈这样的前提等等。外部性问题常被归于产权问题，但是实际上一个企业是不是有长期经营的想法，我觉得与产权没有人们理解中所说的那么密切的关联呢？我觉得所谓有恒产者有恒心，这句话要重新审视，这在很多时候似乎更像是一个心理学问题。
