The Water Cube looks as a light blue transparent "ice block", which is based on the natural formation of about 3000 soap bubbles to give a random, organic appearance, sparkling day and night,
In the day,it shines brightly in the sunshine like a crystal.
At night,it profiled against the night sky like a gorgeous agate.
The Water Cube is not only a beautiful building, but also represents Beijing, represents China! It is a great witness of our national progress! It's a pride of our nation!
I like the Water Cube.
I cannot but praise it again and again. I hope I could go to Beijing to see it by my eyes during the exciting time of the Olympic Games.

With the National Stadium in Beijing points out in cities on both sides of the northern end of the axis, a relatively common form a complete image of Beijing historical and cultural city.
"Water Cube" is the world's largest film structural engineering, building the external use of the world's most advanced environmental protection and energy conservation ETFE membrane materials, covering 7.8 hectares, but not the use of a steel, concrete one. Its walls and ceiling are connected by steel pipe from the small, 12,000 nodes. Only 2.4 mm thick pillow-like membrane structures like the skin surround the entire building, one of the largest gas pillow of about nine square meters, a minimum of less than one square meters. Compared with glass, it can be more thoroughly into the sunlight and air, thereby allowing the pool to maintain constant temperature, energy-saving can be 30 percent.

t has been reported that a father named Zhang Jianming in Hainan province has made a crazy plan for his eight-year-old daughter. The little girl is supposed to run 3588 km, from Sanya to Beijing, in 56 days.
In Zhang’s opinion, his daughter is happy with the plan to be carried out. On the one hand, the running shows their best wishes to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. On the other hand, this kind of training will contribute to her winning a gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games.
However, some reporters believe that the parents are trying to be famous at the cost of the daughter’s physical and mental health. What’s more, it is against the Olympic spirits as well as the will of the child. Therefore, they believe that government should stop this crazy action to protect the rights of the children.
Personally, I believe we should above all make sure that our children are healthy and happy

May I have your attention, please?
As you know, our class will have a talk show on environment protection with Class One on May 4th.Before it takes place, we will invite Dr Li from Qinghua University to give us a talk on the environment problem and he will also tell us about t
he improvement in environment protection in recent years in Beijing.
The report will begin at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30th in the auditorium on the third floor in the classroom building. I’m sure we can get enough information from his talk to make good preparations for the coming talk show. everyone should be there on time, then listen to the report and make full notes at the same time.
By the way, we will have a discussion after the report.
That’s all. Thank you
或者Dos and Don'ts for the 2008 Olympic Volunteers I
t is reported that about 100,000 people will be chosen as volunteers for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. What should the volunteers do and what should they not do? Firstly, they should be polite and friendly to the athletes and visitors from all over the world, and avoid improper behavior.Secondly, they should stick to their posts, offering good services, satisfying/meeting any reasonable needs and being ready to help those in difficulty, and never fail to do their duty.Thirdly, they should introduce the Chinese culture and history to foreigners so that they may know China better and never say or do anything that harms the image of our motherland. If I have the honour to be chosen as a volunteer, besides the above, I will work hard and creatively, but never be lazy.I will follow the law and discipline, but never break them.I will take the opportunity to make friends with the athletes and visitors, and help make the 2008 0lympic games Li Ming

Water Cube
The "Bird's Nest" and the "Water Cube," two major competition venues for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, will be unveiled in April and February 2008 respectively as they will host several "Good Luck Beijing" sports events at that time.
Among the 42 high-level sports events to be held ahead of the next summer's Olympics, 16 will be staged in the first five months of 2008. The National Stadium, dubbed the "Bird's Nest," will be the venue for the IAAF Race Walking Challenge from April 18-19 and the 2008 China Open Marathon on April 20.
On the other hand, the National Aquatics Center, also called the "Water Cube," will hold the China Open swimming event from February 1-5, the World Cup diving from February 19-24, and the Olympic qualification synchronized swimming from April 16-20.
Many other sports events such as canoe-slalom, beach volleyball, tennis, handball and equestrian also have been arranged at the Olympic venues to test the preparations for next August's Olympic Games.
For that reason the new venues have become attractive to world's top level athletes. The international sport federations also want to use the pre-Games events to promote their sports. The champion hopefuls of the 2008 Olympics may appear in the venues if they participate in the "Good Luck Beijing" events.
The "Good Luck Beijing" events are the games of the different international sport federations so that their marketing bears "personalized" characteristics and the organizers must abide by the relevant rules and regulations in their marketing activities.
From December 13-19 the ITTF Pro-Tour Grand Finals are scheduled to be held in Peking University Gymnasium, an Olympic venue too. The ITTF has signed a sponsorship agreement with an enterprise which won the relevant market rights. As the organizer of the ITTF event, the Chinese Table Tennis Association must honor the ITTF marketing rules and regulations, BOCOG Executive Vice-President Yang Shu'an was quoted as saying.

The National Aquatics Centre, known as 'The Water Cube', will be one of the most dramatic and exciting venues to feature sporting events for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The interior of the Centre also makes a strong impressionIn July 2003, the consortium of Arup, architecture firm PTW, the CSCEC (China State Construction and Engineering Corporation) and the CSCEC Shenzhen Design Institute (CSCEC+DESIGN) won the international design competition for the National Aquatics Centre for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The competition, which was judged by a panel of international architects, engineers and pre-eminent Chinese academics, commenced with submissions from ten international consortia and also involved a public exhibition and vote.
The Water Cube looks set to be ready in October 2007. Both the concrete and the steel structure have been completed, and 500 m² of prototype cladding was installed in April, 2006. The next phase is to install all of the cladding and then follow on with de-propping the internal structure and completing the interior.
The building's structural design is based on the natural formation of soap bubblesTo arrive at the building's structural design, which is based on the natural formation of soap bubbles to give a random, organic appearance, we used research undertaken by Weaire and Phelan (professors of physics) into how soap bubbles might be arranged in an infinite array.
To bring the design to life, the individual bubbles are incorporated into a plastic film and tailored like a sewing pattern. An entire section is pieced together and then put into place within the structure. There are interior and exterior films, and the film is then inflated once it is in-situ. It will be continuously pumped thereafter.
The actual pumping has been sub-contracted, and once the installation is complete the operator will be responsible for both the operation and maintenance of the facade for ten years. This was a key component of the brief and in the choice of contractor.
The project is an opportunity for us to offer our expertise in sustainable services. The building will use solar energy to heat the pools and the interior area, and all backwash water is to be filtered and returned to the swimming pools.
The scheme and design for the project was developed in Australia. The project has now been handed over to a team in Beijing who are taking care of the construction.
